Bullets or Ballots (1969)
Published:
Bullets or Ballots is an old crime film. It is okay; not great, but not terrible either.
The plot is simple, but solid: a police officer goes undercover to bust an organised crime group. Of course, the organisation spans all layers of society—from the lowly street thugs, to heads of banks.
The plot is a bit simplistic at times, the acting can be a bit wooden (which I think could be excused, given that Edward Robinson—the man playing the protagonist—was a theatre actor). Even when the premise is simple, the execution does not have to be. There are ways to spice a tried and tested plot up, but I do not think the writers cared enough to use their imagination here.
I do not think it is the best film ever made, but it is definitely not the worst. If you have a free evening and need something to watch, you could do a lot worse than Bullets or Ballots.
