Conformité Européenne vs China Export

The CE symbol representing China Export is deceptively similar to the CE symbol representing Conformité Européenne. I am sure this is just a coincidence.
Conformité Européenne
If the two letters are keeping a polite, respectful distance (like countries in a shared economic zone, or in a community of coal and steel) it is the European symbol.
China Export
If the two letters are close together (as if squeezed by an iron grip of a communist party) it is the Chinese symbol.
Design
I think the design of the European conformance mark is pretty neat, as shown by the following picture:
To me it looks like similar principles were used in the design of the Conformité Européenne mark and the euro ie, European currency, symbol. I like how technical they are.
