Vampyros Lesbos at Backstage, München

Published: September 6th 2025 (week 36 of 2025)

I had the pleasure to see Vampyros Lesbos play live at Backstage club in München. It was a classy way to start the evening.

The show

I do not know why, but the best concerts usually take place at smaller venues. Vampyros Lesbos' show at Backstage was no exception. They played as the support band for Grausame Töchter, but delivered a performance that, in my opinion, was worthy of being experienced by itself, not just in a "sure, let's see the support too" manner.

Elegant women dressed in tight, black leather? Count me in! What can I say? I am a sucker for this aesthetic.

Sometimes, there is form without function, aesthetic without utility... and I am happy to report that this is definitely not the case with Vampyros Lesbos.

They present themselves in a way that perfectly telegraphs what you can expect from their music. You can immediately and clearly see what you are about to hear. There is no false posing, just honest and open signal—telling you to get ready.

Ready for what, you may ask?

Ready to be engulfed by a dark, synthetic soundwave. The songs have strong rhytm, almost like marching music, interwoven with softer moments and clear—sometimes almost ethereal—vocals. I found it easy to get caught up in the music, and in the experience as a whole. 10⁄10 would go to see Vampyros Lesbos live again.

I also appreciate the fact that they took time to talk to people after the concert. It was nice to be able to say "Vielen dank!" in person.

The music

I am no music critic, so I will just ask you to give it a listen and judge for yourself. What I can say is that—if it is not already obvious—I wholeheartedly recommend Vampyros Lesbos to anyone interested in this particular, darker, kind of electronic music.

Their Vi Per Sanguinem album, in digital format, is available for purchase at Bandcamp, but I was able to secure a physical CD—with autographs from Ostara Männel (Instagram) and Elisabeth Brenner, no less!
