Traces of two pasts
Published:
A novel by Kazushige Nojima accompanying the Final Fantasy VII Remake games. I like FF7, but I expected the book to be typical video game related novel ie, nothing special. How wrong have I been...
The first part of the book covers Tifa's past, the second Aerith's. In both cases it's framed as a conversation between friends, with the main character of each part telling stories from her past. It is a clever framing device, allowing the author to inject external points of view—coming from friends listening to the story—into the narrative.
I am not going to describe the plot in detail, I would rather suggest you grab a copy and read it yourself. What I can do is to say that the story is well written, the translation is stellar, and I greatly enjoyed reading the book—from the first page to the last one (including the third, not mentioned on the cover, part).
It is a book can definitely I see myself reaching for again.
